From Language Partners to Life Partners
The end of November, when the cold wintry winds begin to blow. I was sharing a drink with a high school friend at an izakaya in Kobe. We meet about once every three months. This season makes me crave hot sake and hotpot dishes. In the end, we even drank a concoction of wine mixed with the blood of a Chinese softshell turtle (This is considered a delicacy in a few countries like France and Japan. Don't worry. Japanese people don't eat regular turtles). After warming up our entire bodies, it was time to call it a night. On the way to the station, my friend said, "Our next outing will be a bonenkai (year-end party)."
